Now on iOS: M4A to Text and Translate

If you’ve ever recorded a lecture, meeting, or interview and wished you could search through it or share it as text, you know the pain. Audio files are hard to organize, impossible to search, and useless without context. M4A to Text and Translate solves that by converting your audio files into accurate, searchable text—and translating them if you need to.

The app was previously available on Android, and I’m excited to bring it to iOS today.

What It Does

  • Convert audio to text: Powered by OpenAI’s Whisper engine, it accurately transcribes M4A, MP3, and WAV files (up to 25MB) into editable text.
  • Translate across languages: Get high-quality translations in Korean, English, Japanese, and Mandarin using DeepL-grade translation.
  • Summarize with AI: The Pro plan includes GPT-powered summaries—turn meeting recordings or lectures into concise notes with a single tap.
  • Work offline: Use the on-device mode to transcribe up to 10 minutes daily for free, with no audio leaving your phone.
  • Choose your method: Pick between fast cloud-based transcription or private on-device processing depending on your needs and file size.

I built this app because I kept hitting the same wall: recorded content is useless without being able to search it, share it, or understand it. Whether it’s turning voice memos into organized notes, extracting dialogue from interviews, or making foreign-language recordings actionable in your native language, the workflow was clunky. I wanted something that just works, respects your privacy, and doesn’t require a subscription for basic use.

Who This Is For

Anyone who records audio regularly will find this useful. Students transcribing lectures, journalists capturing interviews, product managers documenting meeting notes, language learners processing foreign-language content—the app handles all of it. The free tier gives you 10 minutes of on-device transcription daily, which is enough to test the workflow. If you need more, the Basic plan unlocks 100 minutes monthly of cloud transcription (faster for large files) with ads removed. Pro adds GPT summaries and priority processing.

If privacy matters to you, the on-device mode means your audio never leaves your iPhone. If speed matters, the cloud option processes files in seconds. You get to choose.

Pricing and Plans

  • Free: 10 minutes daily on-device transcription, basic translation.
  • Basic: 100 minutes monthly cloud transcription, ad-free.
  • Pro: 300 minutes monthly, GPT summaries, priority processing.
  • One-time add-on: Buy 100 minutes as needed—no expiration.

M4A to Text and Translate is now available on the App Store. You can sign in with your Apple ID, Google account, or email. Give it a try and let me know what you think—there’s a feedback option in the app’s info tab.
