How often do you pull something from the back of the fridge only to find it expired two weeks ago? Food, medicine, skincare products — they all have a shelf life, and keeping track of them mentally just does not work.
I built this app because I kept throwing things out and feeling guilty about it. I wanted something straightforward: scan a package, set a reminder, move on. Everything else I found was either too complex or required creating an account just to track a carton of milk.
What It Does
- Camera OCR scanning: Point your camera at the expiry date printed on a package and the app reads it automatically. You can also pick an image from your photo library if that is easier.
- Manual entry form: Add any item by hand — name, category, expiry date, purchase date, notes, and an icon — all on a single screen. Notifications are scheduled the moment you save.
- D-day countdown display: Every item shows its remaining days as D-N, D-DAY, or D+N. Items that are close to expiring are highlighted in color so they jump out immediately.
- Flexible notifications: Default reminders go out 7 days before, 1 day before, and on the expiry date itself. You can toggle each of these on or off, or set a custom notification time per item.
- Fully local storage: No sign-up, no login, no server. All your data stays on your device. Nothing is transmitted externally, and deleting the app removes everything with it.
The app organizes items across 12 categories — things like dairy, meat, vegetables, medicine, cosmetics, and cleaning supplies — so you can see at a glance what needs attention in which area of your life. It also supports both light and dark mode, and the interface is available in English and Korean.
This is a good fit for anyone who wants a no-friction way to manage perishables. Single-person households tend to find it especially useful since smaller quantities mean things get forgotten more easily. It is also practical if you track prescription or over-the-counter medicine expiry, or if you follow the period-after-opening guidelines on skincare products.
The app, originally named 소비기한 알람 in Korean, is version 1.0 and available now on the App Store. It is free to download and supported by banner and interstitial ads via Google AdMob. If you have questions or feedback, you can reach me directly at siwooeo@gmail.com.
